Karla Metikosa The Platinum Collection |
If Karlo could have been with them that evening and share the feelings they managed to send out to the overcrowded audience through his music, he would undoubtedly be proud. That was a major difference when compared to that late, dreary December afternoon in 1991 on the Mirogoj cemetery, when we all, from the hill and gathered around his grave, listened to the distant cannonades! The atmosphere of the anticipation, the feeling of the special re-association with Karlo's catchy spirit, the expectation of the after-funeral feast on the informal recipe for which one did not have to ask his permission….everything indicated only to be good, happy and dedicated. And everything turned out to be exactly like that. Retrospectively speaking, it is possible to peel off the first and the hardest bark of emotionality from "The rhythm of the rain", since it gave the flavor, the color and the tone to this event. But there is the aspect of this concert held at "Istria" hall that we must also take into account. In the usual circumstances the scope of the artists was very interesting-from Arsen Dedic, the 4M quartet, "Crveni koralji" (The red corals) band, to Neno Belan, Dino Dvornik and "Psihomodopop" band-and it proves just how much Karlo Metikos outreached the decades and condensed the tradition of the Croatian pop culture, which earlier on hesitated to look into the past and its roots, even more than her allegedly mature and serious sisters. All the more reason for me to remember the witty remark about the unending current of the pop music in which "the new wave is made out of the old water", noted down in the remark for the compilation album "Matt Collins: 16 original recordings (1962-1966)", 10 years before Karlo's death. His "Rhythm of the rain" will rinse many memories, but it is also certain that it will not wash them away. Drazen Vrdoljak & friends
